In order to supply the finest soft serve ice cream we sought out the acknowledged best cream producers and breed; Jersey cattle and Jersey Ice Cream. Jersey’s countryside is a place of beauty, recreation and culture. It is blessed with some of the deepest, most fertile soils, and our climate is perfect for growing most crops. Our beautiful countryside flourishes with wild flowers, and our famous Jersey cows graze on lush green fields for the majority of the year. We know that dairy farming in Jersey has a positive impact on the environment and countryside. And the dairy industry in Jersey is committed to adopting good environmental practice in its operational and capital investment decisions and to operate at the highest levels of efficiency.

The Carbon Neutral Strategy Authored by Government of Jersey, Strategic Policy, Planning and Performance was published on 31st December 2019 and identified emission trends in the Island for the last twenty eight years, in which agriculture’s contribution has been calculated to have reduced to 4% of the total, of which dairy forms a part. Our 13 Jersey Dairy farmers supplying milk to Jersey Dairy recognise the increasing importance of addressing the global challenge of climate change and have declared their commitment to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions from their dairy farms. Our farms are developing a number of specific initiatives to demonstrate and record accurately their progress with the assistance of local biodiversity experts as well as leaders in this field from the UK, who are keen to use the Island as a platform for accurate measurement of dairy farm emissions. In addition, our farms intend to understand how the levels of carbon sequestration and soil health can be further improved in fields, which collectively represent just over 20% of the farmland in the Island.
